OPEN CALL & Red Door Updates

1st issue - Featured artist: Diego La Torre

Dear Red Door friends, dreamers, worldthreaders, comrades and colleagues:

The act of living is an art form all its’ own. Every step is a stroke and sometimes we find our hands forced by traditions we would not call our own. We have inadvertently developed a series of habits that we call “style.” We have paid for them in our way. In  some cases we got more than we bargained for. Time to look at the numbers and adjust some of the figures. These books are out of balance, you better believe. The language you speak and the things your eyes see, this is what we want to document. We want it to touch us, to transform us, to bring us together to the world we wish to belong.

So how do you find a balance? Who can say? It is time to test some new theories. The Neverstop project is our way of trying out some ideas and we invite you to come with us. We are eager to develop new collaboration projects in all aspects of the creative process. This is an open call to combine our energies in our efforts to live this love-life. It is work and play and everything else. We need you to help us figure out what it looks like. Let’s share our ideas and shed our fears. Let’s do this. For real.

The format of the magazine has been changed to provide for easier information exchange and user-generated content: That is, for you to get involved with Red Door in a more active way. The front page of our magazine is now in blog format, to allow frequent updates and posts, from events to articles and reviews, from our correspondents, contributors and authors. This means we will have the possibility of posting your content as soon as we receive it!!! If you are interested in joining us, read the guidelines.

In addition to this, instead of a bi-monthly publication (as we had done in the past years), we will be presenting a formal issue of Red Door Magazine 4 times a year, which you will be able to download, archive and distribute. The due date for content submission is as follows:

March 11, 2012

June 11, 2012

Sept 11, 2012

Dec 11, 2012

Red Door Magazine is pleased to invite musicians, visual artists, designers in different fields, activists, professionals, amateurs and students to share their vision with us.

The curatorial process of each issue, which will define the style of each of the 4 issues, will be announced on our facebook page and through our e-newsletter. The purpose is to create additional printed projects, including zines, books and postcards, with the collaboration of the artists selected to participate in these 4 issues.

Let us begin this 3rd year of Red Door with beautiful days, collaborations and awareness. Let the conversation be within those who are already awake, for we are community. No more isolation of ideas. We exist!

Hope to hear from you soon,

Red Door Magazine.

Dear worldthreaders,

An eleventh issue of Red Door Magazine is now in front of you. We are those you see here and those around you, gathered to make of this life a living performance. It is thanks to your participation, your comments, your work and your initiative, that we remain an open space of communication, interaction and exchange. Let’s keep this going.

A new stage now begins. A tangible project presented to you as an invitation, to become an active world threader. We need YOU. your support, your ideas, your talent, your creative and connecting resources.

The process is the product. The fruits we enjoy cost everything. We don’t even ask ourselves if it is worth it anymore. We think we already know. And we do it with what we call love. This is a love of life.

The past month has been about the never ending process of transformation. We have been working tirelessly on the “Neverstop” project. We discovered that we have been working at it our whole lives. Only now do we give it the name – Neverstop. It is a declaration of intent, a matter of fact and a simple truth.

The act of living is an art form all its’ own. Every step is a stroke and sometimes we find our hands forced by traditions we would not call our own. We have inadvertantly developed a series of habits that we call “style.” We have paid for them in our way. In  some cases we got more than we bargained for. Time to look at the numbers and adjust some of the figures. These books are out of balance, you better believe.

S0 how do you find a balance? Who can say? It is time to test some new theories. The Neverstop project is our way of trying out some ideas and we invite you to come with us. It is an open call to combine our energies in our efforts to live this love-life. It is not revolution. It is action, and there is plenty of it.  It is work and play and everything else. We need you to help us figure out what it looks like. Let’s share our ideas and shed our fears. Let’s do this. For real.

We are eleven eleven. We are eternity. We are one.

Love and poetry.

Elizabeth Torres – Brandon Davis.
